The Shimmering Way

The Shimmering Way

The Shimmering Way is consistent with the context of LIU Chih-Hung's works in visualizing his feelings toward ordinary sounds with geometric patterns. This work, located by the Nankan River, combines his constant concerns about local soundscapes and visualizes the sense of hearing with the shapes of light by means of computer software. The sound waves of a sample of the environmental sounds collected from the Nankan River near the Pet Park are converted into light waves with various lengths, passing through curving neon lights. They look like the waves in the Nankan River at close distance, but if you look from afar, you'll see a passage of local sounds. In evenings, the blue lights shine in the park, which is usually dark, creating an unusual scene of fantasy. It is hoped that this work will not only arouse people's curiosity about the transferring of different senses and their aesthetic imagination but also lead them to further consider the possibility of environment education and local connections.

The recent works of LIU Chih-Hung embody his understanding of life and contemporary experiences. His approach to narration and interpretation from a mundane perspective allows him to tightly interlock emotions and images. His works cover a wide range of spectrum to include paintings, installations, landscapes, images, ready-made objects, and publications with a focus on "the use of ordinary materials," "the notion of formal language," and "the creation of local connections."
