YUNG-CHIN HSU

徐永進 (1951-2022) was a calligrapher known for his unorthodox and unrestrained style, dedicating his entire life to liberating calligraphy and infusing traditional art with contemporary elements. In the 1970s and 1980s, he excelled in various calligraphy styles, including seal script, official script, cursive script, regular script, and running script. In the 1990s, he subverted traditional calligraphic aesthetics and embarked on innovative experiments in modern calligraphy.

In the 21st century (2012-2022), he further integrated cursive script with ink painting, expressing a playful and spiritual mood, and creating a fusion of calligraphy and painting. His works represented both contemporary calligraphy and abstract art with intuitive brushwork.

In his later years, Xu Yongjin held exhibitions across Europe, Asia, and East Asia, solidifying his position and influence in the global and Chinese calligraphy community.
