Under the banyan, beside the pond, short bridge, running stream, an interesting world of fun and frolic

Under the banyan, beside the pond, short bridge, running stream, an interesting world of fun and frolic

Paddy Waves, ponds, streams, trains, camellia and Mount Bogong are elements essential to the life in Fugang. Making good use of the surroundings and things at hand is the trait of Hakka lifestyle. Females in a family, be that grandmother, daughters-in-law or sister-in-law, would brew tea and chitchat by Bogong Temple under a big Banyan tree during downtime, working together to grind rice and prepare rice noodle dishes, such as home-made herbal rice cake and Niuwenshui (Hakka glutinous rice mochi), all together form the cultural picture of "Under the banyan, beside the pond, short bridge, running stream, an interesting world of fun" unique to Fugang.
